The joy of the Holy Spirit is much more than natural joy. It exists even in the midst of sorrow and disappointment. In fact, it is birthed in suffering. Jesus himself said that divine joy works that way: "You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain...but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world" (John 16:20-21)
"Joy to the world the Lord has come"; is it not tragic that so many have no time for Him? Even more so at this special time of the year. Let us be careful as to make the mistake of pushing our ministry aside for the glitz and glitter of commercialism. Take the time to enjoy our family and friends; Gods gift to us. Take the time to visit someone homebound or someone in the hospital. Consider visiting a family of one of the boys in your outpost if just to get acquainted; take the time to show them that the church cares about them. Then experience Gods peace for being a caregiver. The peace the Holy spirit gives is the same kind of peace Jesus promised His disciples: "My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27).
Let the peace and joy of this season be to you and your loved ones and always give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy in this land of plenty. ShalomLabels: 2007, chaplain, joe_finan

If God gave Solomon wisdom and knowledge; a man who loved God; a man after God's own heart; we can then assume that these are pre-requisit to receiving the blessings of God. Since God is soverign He can bless whom ever he desires. The book of Ecclesiastes records out of God's blessings on Solomon he became very wealthy; in todays economy he might have been considered a millionaire or billionaire; at any rate history records him as being a truly blessed King that came out of the blessings God had given him. Just consider the fact he had 100 wives; let us just say that ought to make any male (who pays the bills in the household)sit up and take notice. Any wonder God said one wife for life is all we need.If your curious regarding other blessings God bestows upon His own, here are just some to consider: Peace, hope, joy, riches, favor, rest, patience, goodness kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, compassion, love, strength, truth, healing, deliverance, purpose, power, grace, salvation, eternal life, the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Yes, God is good all the time; He loves us and we need to count our blessings often, name them one by one; and then thank Him for each and every blessing, our gifts from above. Happy and blessed Thanksgiving to you and yours. Labels: 2007, chaplain, joe_finan

Title: Camaraderie in Ministry
In Paul's epistle to the Philippians, he wanted believers to know they were "contending as one man". This greek term conveys the idea of players on an athletic team, working side-by-side against an opposing force, that these believers needed to act as a team, they needed to plan together, pray together, and serve together.
Like many of you I am a football fan. Few things are more intimidating than a defensive or offensive line skilled, determined two hundred-seventy-pound players working together under expert coaching. May each local outpost see itself as a similarly equipped team, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and guided by their great coach Jesus Christ, heading to victory against the forces of darkness.
We need to give thanks for partners in ministry. Partnership in the Lord's work brings an intimate bond between commanders. When we pray together, plan together, give together and serve together, an unusually close bond is created. The names of so many people flood my mind from the years as serving as District Commander, people who remain dear to me because of our years of working together building the kingdom of God, one boy at a time. Whenever they come to mind I give thanks for them and remember with sweetness their contribution to this great ministry.
Remember to let others know how much you appreciate them and express confidence in what God is doing in their lives.
"He who began a work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus". Let us press on, circumstances are temporary, so keep praising the Lord for God is faithful, all the time.Labels: 2007, chaplain, joe_finan

Chaplain's Message: Monday, March 5, 2007
Any organization that wants to continue fulfilling its mission must learn to be a good steward of its resources. Every Royal rangers Commander in the Penn Del District needs to recognize we serve a common goal, “To reach, teach and keep boys for Christ”. We must never take for granted the trust placed in us as leaders of boys.
The single greatest way to impact an organization is to focus on leadership development. Everything rises and falls on leadership. There is almost no limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises them up as leaders, and continually develops them. Every Commander has an obligation to the Ranger ministry to work to improve our services so we might meet the needs of our organization. Each ones personal development adds value to the ministry; we need to embody excellence in everything we do for the common good of Royal Rangers. “You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things.” –Mother Teresa.
We must not stand in the way of growth for the organization; in order for us to realize future growth we need to grow leaders so we might expand our staffs, present the training available to us, and explore new possibilities that can take us to the next level. Let us make every effort to communicate the value of Royal Rangers to every church, every pastor, to every person willing to listen so we can get to the next level sooner than later. May God enable you to become a better team member. Joe Finan PDRR Chaplain Labels: 2007, chaplain, joe_finan
