George Washington Chapter Spring Trace

Congratulations to Jess "Grey Eagle" Arnold and Philip "Word Speaker" Sproull, who both completed their Wilderness level testing at the recent Colonials Territorial Rendezvous on October 6-9, 2011. Philip was also elected as the Colonials Territory FCF Scout and will serve to represent the Young Bucks throughout our region for the next two years. Please be sure to congratulate both of them.
The Northeast Region, Colonials Territorial Rendevous held at the Penn-Del Royal Ranger Camp in Honey Grove, PA, on October 6-9, was nothing short of spectacular. The weather was absolutely gorgeous for the near 300 partipants who attended the Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship event. The view of 110 shelters seen by those traveling along Route 850 was a site that made passerbys look twice. The glow of the candlelight from within the shelters during the night was a sereen picture. The residents of the Honey Grove area are used to seeing rain when the Royal Rangers come to their camp, but not this time. The weather couldn't have been more perfect for this event and for those that attended all the way from Maine down Viginia.
Our guest speaker was National FCF President, Paul "Grey Owl" Walters, who hails from the Penn-Del District in the Northeast Region. His messages were very succint and uplifting and the worship team was top notch. There was plenty to do at the Rendezvous, including competitions, trading, fellowship and let's not forget some of the best cooking you'll every come across. Our very own Herman "Happy Guy" Geesaman was presented the Outstanding FCF Service Award, which was presented by the National FCF President. Paul "Grey Owl" Walters and Vice-president, Ted "Oak" Schmidt. Happy Guy is from the George Washington Chapter of the FCF.
Eleven candidates attained the Wilderness level of the FCF having successfully passed their testing and completed the overnight vigil during the Rendezvous. Two of the candidates were from the George Washington Chapter; Jess "Grey Eagle" Arnold and Philip "Word Speaker" Sproull. Philip Sproull was also elected as the Territorial Scout and will represent all Young Bucks for the next two years. Congratulations are extended to both Jess and Philip.
We had approximately 80 FCFer's from the George Washington Chapter attend the Rendezvous. If you didn't attend the Territoroal Rendezvous you missed one of the best. Hope to see you at the Spring Trace on April 20-22, 2012. In the meantime, be sure to get your Trapper Brigade points in to Kelvin "Levi" Pier.

Yes, spring is here and so were the spring rains. The 2011 Spring Trace is liable to be hereinafter known as the great "Mud and Flood" Trace. If you missed the Trace you missed a wet one, but a very spiritual one. Rain started around 6:30 a.m., just shortly after everone roused from their sacks. It didn't let up until about 9:00 p.m. that evening. Nonetheless, competitions and events went on as scheduled. The results are below.
Twelve new Greenhorns joined the ranks and went through the Great Adventure Friday evening and Saturday. Some of the Young Bucks stated that, despite the weather, this was the greatest Trace they had attended. Attendance was down due to the weather, but spirits were up as our District Men's Director, Tom Rees, ministered to the men and boys at devotions and evening services. Tom challenged us to look deep inside ourselves and discover our hurts and things that keep us from having successful relationships with others as well as with God. He also showed us how to care for others and serve them and meet their needs. He was one of the best speakers we have had at our Trace.
Not only did our spirits rise at the Trace, so did the Tuscarora Creek. The rains and flood waters caused the creek to rise nearly 8 feet and come to within about 2 feet of topping the banks where the brave contingency from Delaware was camping. Others were camped up on the hill near the traditional council fire area and were safe from the floods, but did not escape the mud. The ground was extremely soft from heavy rains during the previous two weeks as well as during the trace and getting stuck was a certainty. However, thanks to Vince "Valiant Falcon" Fry, who came to the rescue with one of the camp tractors and helped pull trailers in and out on Sunday so everyone could go home.
In all, we had a great Trace. We had 98 in attendance and 34 shelters. All new Greenhorns inducted into the FCF at this Trace are reminded that if they attend the 2012 Spring Trace their registration will be free.
Happy trails and see you and all the fair weather campers at the Territorial Rendevous on October 7-9, 2011, right back at our Penn-Del Royal Ranger Camp Berry. Hopefully we will not see any rain at that event.

Congratulations to Philip Sproull who was re-elected as the GW Chapter FCF Scout at the Spring 2011 Trace. The position of Assistant Scout was not elected.
