Junior Survival Camp (JSC) is
designed to give boys intense training and experience in
survival camping. JSC is for Rangers who have completed the
ninth grade and AJTC. Upon completion if JSC the junior leader
will have completed all requirements for the silver Wilderness
Survival Merit.
The time at JSC will be divided between instruction and
application. Boys are placed into two-man survival teams and
will select a name and motto for their team. Boys learn skills
such as advanced fire craft, primitive beds and shelters,
outdoor cooking, and first aid. Teams construct and live in
survival shelters. They build solar stills and use the water
that is obtained.
They learn
how to acquire and prepare food from their surroundings. Teams
will sleep in primitive shelters. Their survival kits are
inspected and brought up to minimum standards by the camp staff.
JSC includes a 24-hour survival experience.
*Required camp for Leadership medal and the Saber for Penn-Del
District JLTA. (If you are not in Penn-Del, please check
with your district's JLTA for Saber requirements).
