It is with great sadness that I bring you the news of the passing of yet another great and dedicated Royal Ranger commander. Joseph Thomas Starr, age 74, went home to be with the Lord, October 15, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 27, 1935 in Mercersburg, Pa to Ferris and Nellie (Timmons) Starr. He was married to Doris Guyer on April 5, 1958. Joseph was retired from the US Army Reserves. He was employed as a supervisor at W.D. Byron & Sons in Williamsport, MD and Loewengart & Co. in Mercersburg, Pa. Joseph is a member of St Thomas Assembly of God church in St Thomas where he served as a Royal Ranger Leader and Sectional Commander.
Joseph is survived by his wife Doris of fifty one years and his daughters: Kimberly S. Hand (husband Robert) and Karen P. Miller (husband Christopher). He is also survived by his brothers: Ferris, Roy and Merle Starr and his sister: Rebecka Gordon, his grandsons: Jeremy & Corey Hand, step grandson Shaun Miller and step great granddaughter: Kimberly Miller. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents Ferris & Nellie M. Starr, a brother John Starr, sister Ruth DeLauder and a grandson Anthony Kerlin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday, October 19, 2009 at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 6492 Lincoln Way West, St Thomas, Pa., with the Rev. Alvin Hezlep officiating. Viewing will be held from 6-8 pm, Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Assembly of God Church at 173 Rhondel Drive, St. Thomas, PA 17252.
